Lecturers

The lecturers of the seminar are: Pierre Garello (Economics), Douglas Rasmussen (Philosophy), Emmanuel Martin (Economics), Frank Van Dun (Law - Philosophy), Pietro Paganini, Werner Van den Bruwaene and multiple guest speakers.

Pierre Garello
Pierre Garello, director of IES-Europe, is Professor of Economics at the Faculte d'Economie Applique of Paul Cezanne University in Aix-en-Provence, France. He is responsible for the research at the Paul Cézanne University. He has published various articles on Austrian economics, law and economics (especially competition law and contract law).

He received his PhD in economics in 1992 from New York University where he worked on perception and decision theories.

He is a member of the IREF, a think tank that promotes fiscal federalism.

He is also at the center of a liberal network in Europe and is the coordinator of the European liberal think tanks Resource Bank.

Douglas Rasmussen
Douglas B. Rasmussen is Professor of Philosophy
at St. John’s University in New York City. Professor Rasmussen perfected his post-Aristotelianism in Norms of Liberty: A Perfectionist Basis for
Non-Perfectionist Politics co-written with Douglas Den Uyl and published at Pennsylvania State University Press. He is also the editor and co-author of several philosophical books on liberalism : The Philosophic Thought of Ayn Rand (University of Illinois Press, 1984) and Liberty for the Twenty-First Century (Roman & Littlefield, 1995) ; Liberty and Nature: An Aristotelian Defense of Liberal Order (Open Court, 1991).; Liberalism Defended: The Challenge of Post-Modernity (Edward Elgar, 1997).

Emmanuel Martin
Emmanuel Martin is the editor of Unmondelibre.org, the French language website of The Cato Institute. He has worked for the French classical liberal think tank ALEPS (Association pour la Liberté Economique et le Progrès Social), and has contributed columns to the website of the think tank www.libres.org. He regularly writes columns for the Institut Economique Molinari and the magazine Société Civile. He is a regular moderator and speaker of the International Akademie fur Fuehrungskraefte of the Friedrich Naumann foundation in Germany. Martin's academic work deals with 'faked development', market dynamics and growth, and the concept of civil society. He received his doctorate in Economics from the Faculté d'Economie Appliquée, Paul Cezanne University in France.

Frank Van Dun
Dr. Frank van Dun holds degrees in law and philosophy and teaches courses in the philosophy of law at the universities of Ghent (Belgium) and Maastricht (The Netherlands).
He is particularly interested in the naturalistic traditions of natural law thinking, classical liberalism, libertarianism and the idea of the rule of law. His interests include logic, praxeology and economics.

Pietro Paganini
Pietro Paganini serves as Professor at John Cabot University (Rome, Italy). He holds a Doctorate in Communication and Complex Organizations. Pietro is also co-founder at Competere - Geopolitical Management - a transatlantic consulting firm based in Washington, D.C. He is Executive Officer of the European Privacy Association, Board Member of Istituto Italiano per la Privacy and BAIA - Network Italy America and Associazione Italia-India. His first book “Innovation: from Theory to Territory: Paradigm and Strategies in the Information Society” was published in January 2006. He is also the author of several articles in various Italian and international papers, journals, radio and TV, in which he has continuously advocated free market, entrepreneurship and innovation. He served as Vice President and political officer for the European Liberal Youth, a pan European classical liberal youth organization standing for free market and individual rights.

Werner Vandenbruwaene
Werner Vandenbruwaene (°1984) holds a MA in Law from the University of Antwerp. His interests include - amongst others - constitutional law and economics, Hayekian legal theory, public choice, behavioral economics and the philosophy of science. He is currently preparing a PhD at the University of Antwerp.
